Article 1. Objective
The Research Ethics Policy (hereafter termed “Policy”) aims to establish the general code of ethics that should be abided by scholars or experts who submit manuscripts or contributions to Journal of Humanities Therapy published by the Humanities Institute, Kangwon National University.

Article 2. Compliance with Research Ethics
1. Manuscripts published in Journal of Humanities Therapy should be written in accordance with the ethics policy.
2. The ethics Compliance Form should be signed and consented to. It should be submitted along with the Manuscript Submission form and the manuscript.

Article 3. Ethical Guide for Authors
1. Plagiarism
The researcher may not misrepresent any part of another author’s research or articles as if they were the researcher’s own. Presenting another author’s ideas and research results without proper citations and references is considered plagiarism.

2. Citation and Reference
Authors should represent the work of others clearly and accurately in the text or footnotes.

3. Authorship
For collaborative research, the authorship of research publications should accurately reflect individual contributions to the work and its reporting.

4. The author should not re-publish his or her published research results as original work without proper notification.

5. Multiple Submissions
The author should not concurrently submit the manuscript to more than one publication.

Article 4. Ethical Guide for the Editorial Board
1. Responsibility
The editorial Board is responsible for assessing the submitted manuscript and making publication decisions.

2. Fairness
The Editorial Board should treat the submitted manuscript fairly, and consult referees who have sufficient expert knowledge to provide objective judgment on the manuscript.

3. Confidentiality
The Editorial Board members should not disclose any information about the author or the manuscript before the final decision is made.

Article 5. Ethical Guide for Referees
1. Fair Assessment
The referee should fairly assess the manuscript under consideration according to objective criteria.

2. Responsibility of Report
It a referee suspects that the author may have submitted the paper in the same or similar form to another publication, or is under consideration for another publication, or suspects that plagiarism has occurred, this should be discretely reported to the journal editor.

3. Confidentiality
The referee should remain confidential regarding the manuscript under consideration. The referee should not cite the text of the manuscript until it has been published in the journal.

Article 6. Committee for Examination and Decision on Ethics
1. Ethics Committee Composition
The Editorial Board of Journal of Humanities Therapy is responsible for examining and making decisions regarding the ethical policy. The editor of the Editorial Board holds the post of the chairman of the Ethics Committee concurrently.

2. Ethics Committee Authority
The Ethics Committee (The Editorial Board) should independently examine and decide on a case of research ethics violation if recognized or reported in accordance with the policy.

3. Investigation and Examination
A meeting regarding research ethics violation will be convened when requested by the editorial board members or the editor. Once the request is submitted, the editor must convene the committee meeting within one week of the request.

4. Decision
The committee may pass a decision with the attendance of more than half of the members and with support from more than two-thirds of those present.

5. Appeals
The committee considers whether to give the researcher suspected of a violation the opportunity to appeal the committee’s decision after due consultation with the researcher.

6. Opinions of Persons Concerned
The Editorial Board, if necessary, may require the persons concerned with the case to present his or her opinions in a committee meeting.

7. Protection for the Researcher Suspected of a Violation
Vindication of the researcher suspected of a violation will be confidentially processed in a board meeting. The editor and the board members will not disclose the researcher’s identity or the progress of the investigation.

8. Report of Deliberation
The committee will take the minutes of ethical investigation meetings and report the results to the Humanities Institute. The report will document the subject of the investigation, the violation investigated, the list of referees, investigation procedures, the grounds for the decision, related evidence, and the vindication of the researcher under investigation and its process.

Article 7. Report of Ethical Violation and the Rights of the Informant
1. Report
If it is suspected that a researcher has violated research ethics, it may be reported in any possible verbal or written form; by letter, phone, e-mail, and so on. Informants should, in principle, provides his or her real name.

2. Confidentiality
The Editorial Board must not disclose the informant’s identity.

3. False Report
It the reported case proves to be falsely claimed, the informant will not be protected.

Article 8. Disciplinary Actions for Ethical Violation
In case of research ethics violation, the editor, who is informed of the investigation from the Editorial Board, will take the following measures through the review of the steering Committee of the Humanities Institute:

1. The manuscript is to be deleted from the journal list and retracted from the publication.
2. The violation findings are to be posted on the website of the Humanities Institute.
3. The violation findings are to be informed to the National Research Foundation of Korea.
4. The researcher will be banned from submitting for three years from the date of decision is made.

Article 9. Supplementary Provision
1. The Editorial Board is accountable for all that is not stipulated in this policy.

2. Amendment
Amendment or abolition of the policy is implemented in accordance with the procedures of amendment of Journal of Humanities Therapy provisions.

3. Implementation
(1) This Policy shall take effect from December 2010.
(2) This Policy shall take effect from December 2011.
(3) This Policy shall take effect from December 2012.
(4) This Policy shall take effect from December 2013.
(5) This Policy shall take effect from December 2014.
(6) This Policy shall take effect from December 2015.
(7) This Policy shall take effect from December 2016.
(8) This Policy shall take effect from December 2017.
